Who’s Behind DR Locals?
DR Locals was started by me, José Miguel de Jesus. Being a citizen and lifelong resident of the Dominican Republic, I pride myself on providing the best quality front desk reception at many of the leading all-inclusive resorts in the Punta Cana area. My experience of over 30 years in the tourism industry means I’ve pretty much seen it all. Speaking to the thousands of guests that I have had over the years there was always one common complaint. “José, I do not want to take any more excursions, there is nothing different, I’m sick of seeing the parrots and my kids don’t want to play with the monkeys anymore.” I would struggle to come up with something different for them to do. I then started giving my guests the inside information on how to find out what it is like to live here.
The COVID-19 pandemic was a huge eye-opener for me and my family. My entire family and friends were put out of work for approximately one year because there were no tourists visiting our island anymore. I explained to all my family and friends that I wanted to start a new company that would show our wonderful tourists the ‘’local’’ side of living here in the Dominican Republic. I was amazed by the support of my friends and family who crowdfunded my website.
